States like Telangana and West Bengal may push back for GST Rollout in the 15th GST Council meeting on June 3rd


The legislative agenda for the GST Council on June 3, 2017 is to decide on rate of tax for certain Goods and Services and approve the GST Transition and Return Rules, respective formats and also review the preparedness of the IT infrastructure of GSTN.

The Council, comprising of states’ finance ministers and headed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, will take up the fitment of the remaining six goods, including gold and precious metals, textiles, bidis, and branded commodities.

The Telangana government will make a case for postponement of roll out of Goods and Services Tax from July 1 till the grievances of all sections of traders were addressed.

Heightening uncertainties about the Goods and Services Tax (GST), West Bengal today said that its assembly will not move the bills required to roll out the new indirect tax.

Twenty-three states (the last being Delhi) have so far passed the SGST Bill, other states have time till the first week of June to ratify it.
